Why private vocal sessions?

The human voice is a profound instrument. It resides inside us and working with it is vulnerable and profound. I understand that for many, singing and vocal work is about emotional development and bravery, and I encourage both. In vocal coaching with me you will:

  • Learn how the voice works.

  • Make big, wild sounds to break through self-consciousness and understand what you are capable of producing.

  • Learn technique alongside expression and storytelling for a more compelling vocal instrument.

  • Develop performance skills and develop your artistry at any age or level.

  • Enjoy the health benefits of singing, both physically and emotionally.

Singing is both more effortful and effortless than we imagine. Mindfully engaged training leads to a more free, more expressive voice. My approach includes:

  • Strong vocal technique. Including strong breath control/management, nuanced resonance understanding, flexible placement, style-appropriate diction, and developing a free, supported sound.

  • The development of the whole voice. We build a full sound, a full instrument, no matter how the client plays it.

  • Teaching speech-level singing techniques. Learning to sing conversationally before we progress to bigger sounds.

  • Using straw techniques for vocal health, strength, and stamina.

  • Encouraging personal artistry and sound.

  • Adapting to style-specific sounds, including classical, pop, musical theatre, rock, jazz, and country.

  • Performance coaching for the client’s needs.

  • A lot of love when you feel vulnerable

  Client Testimonials

“I cannot recommend Eric enough! I’ve been working with him for two years or so, and I am so happy with our progress. I’ve tried other voice teachers before, but Eric taught me things I never knew about singing. Nothing compares to his knowledge and expertise. For example, I never knew I could hit healthy high soprano notes until I met Eric. He’s helped coach me through auditions, competitions, and lead roles. I owe so much to Eric. He is the best voice teacher I’ve ever had.”-Annie Passmann

Eric is such a strong and talented vocal coach. His dedication and commitment to the art of musical theatre and performance were felt during our first meeting. His foundation is built on correct technique and careful training, and an improvement in my daughter's vocal performance was noticed within her first two training sessions.  She was more confident, her voice richer and fuller; he focused on strengths and, at times, mastery of one technique or another before moving forward. Eric works with the student until the performance is as perfect as possible. I attribute much of my daughter's success in musical theatre (lead roles, first in regional competitions, etc.) to Eric and his approach to learning.  He doesn’t just ‘teach’ voice lessons; he coaches, encourages, mentors, and sets a high bar of expectation for his students - because he knows they can succeed.”-Amy Passmann

“I have been astounded at the progress I have made. Vocally, I am a different singer. I am prepared for big auditions, and confident in my technique and artistic approach. Eric has been remarkable, emotionally and vocally.”-Morgan B.

“He is an amazing voice coach. He knows how to train your voice properly for any song of your choice. I am very glad I found him to teach me. He is very good at what he does.”-Maddie S.

“We have been working with Eric for over three years. It is so rewarding as a parent to watch my daughter’s confidence and voice excel on stage as she sings her heart out. I’ve been very impressed with the progress my daughter has made. Eric not only knows how to teach someone to sing, but to tell a story while on stage. He is great to work with, very energetic and fun.” Kathryn W.
